Japan Journey – Rotary Team Study Goes to Japan, Report 7

11 Apr

Our adventures continued:

April 22nd – Friday:

The very best aspect about going to so quite a few Rotary Clubs is traveling about the Prefecture (like our ‘state’)and seeing so a lot from spot to place – and we’re headed these days – Antonio, Harry and I with Kenji in his Land Rover – to Buzen West Rotary Club – which will take an hour generate and is located at about 1 o’clock (if the island is a clock) on the coastline. We’re in stunning broad open land as we generate there – lakes and mountains and not crowded like I believed that Japan would be. But Japanese consider that The us seems like LA – and I’m frightened that ahead of this vacation I assumed that Japan all appeared like Tokyo (Harry said that far too). The Buzen Club reminds me of currently being in outdated Japanese countryside, and we’re served a really traditional (but spicer) rice and curry lunch (yumm – we say). I spoke – and the concerns present that the gentlemen are curious about ladies in Rotary – another person asked what occurred immediately after our Supreme Court decision to permit girls into Rotary.

Near by was the Tsuiki Japan Air Drive Self Protection Base – and Antonio was extremely enthused to be privileged to what we saw there. We entered the base (spooky to believe of Japanese air attacks) – and received a briefing of the historical past of the base (that it was occupied by the U.S. for a interval of time and then returned to the Japanese) and the forms of operations and sorts of planes that had been on the base. We walked out on to the tarmac wherever they experienced pulled out three fighter planes for us to see – an F-1, F-2 and an F-16 (1st time that I’d actually noticed a fighter plane up close, and was interested to listen to that Japanese and Americans collaborated on the most technologically innovative planes). One particular pilot for just about every of these planes was extremely pleasant about detailing his aircraft to us and its capabilities – one pilot claimed that he had a spouse and two youngsters, and the plane was his “girlfriend” – it was funny to listen to him inform this. Antonio was surprised that the F-sixteen could pull 9 g’s – sounded like a wild trip to me. The pilots were young and slim – since Antonio said that aided them to tolerate the g-force – and that they wore specific suits to hold the pilots’ blood pumping though they had been soaring in the sky. We were invited to the top of the handle tower (evidently a scarce opportunity) and we could see out above the whole base – including lots of the three kinds of planes that we experienced been introduced to earlier. There had been rows and rows of planes – like a film set wherever they were all prepared to just take off. I loved the expansive coast line and lushes mountains that we could see – and hoped that these planes would never be utilised. We stopped in the PX – and then claimed goodbye to our gracious hosts. Kenji built a bar-b-que for us at his property afterwards in the night (Japanese fashion – which I now recognize is everything really thinly sliced) – and invited some entertaining close friends – and I hated to skip the late nights exciting but went to bed early.
